Each one of us knows that great contributor for huge floods which unfortunately were faced currently by our country, is solid waste’s improper management. Everyone has seen huge amount of Styrofoam and plastic garbage that clogged drainage systems and waterways.
Plastic bags aren’t biodegradable and most of the times are typically unaccepted on few recycling events. Hence, they lead to landfills that can take much than thousands of years for breaking down into tiny bits but will still continue polluting the environment.
Plastics that are not recycled as well as not disposed off correctly will end up forming litter. They also lead to serious danger and death of animals who consume them mistaking as food.
In order to save our Earth, we as people must impart our share so as to assist our community in becoming a better place to live in simply by proper management as well as proper solid waste disposal and encourage use of shopping bags that are reusable instead of plastic bags.
It is a truth that we cannot completely ban plastic bags usage but can manage it along with applying the three Rs that is reuse, reduce, and recycle.
Let’s support the latest ordinance that soon will be implemented in Barangay. The ordinance is regarding prohibition of plastic bags usage as main packaging for dry products, controlling its usage on wet products, banning plastic bags sale, and prohibiting Styrofoam usage.
Also I want to make a request through Barangay officials of ours for implementing and deploying if possible the garbage containers for plastic, cans, and paper along those streets that are 50 metres apart so as to assist us in some manner for better solid waste management.
